On 3 September 2020, EVALSDGs and EvalPartners hosted Insight Dialogue #2 on “Using Big Data to Strengthen SDG Evaluations: Opportunities and Challenges”. This Dialogue introduced the most recently published EVALSDGs Insights:
- EVALSDGs Insight 8: Evaluating the SDGs: Challenges and the Potential of Big Data
- EVALSDGs Insight 9: Using Big Data to Strengthen Evaluation of the SDGs
which identify some of the special challenges that evaluators face when assessing the progress of the SDGs and illustrate some data collection and analysis tools and techniques for Big Data that can potentially strengthen our evaluation toolkit.
The speaker for this dialogue was the author of the two EIs, Dr. Michael Bamberger, an independent Evaluation Consultant, with over 50 years of experience in development evaluation. He is the author of the report: “Integrating Big Data into the Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Programs” for UN Global Pulse and co-authored the book Dealing With Complexity in Development Evaluation, A Practical Approach, among other publications.
